  • Clementine's story begins with its namesake—a resilient clementine tree the owners discovered growing through a crack in a parking lot during their location search. This acclaimed restaurant, helmed by a husband-and-wife team serving as head chef and pastry chef, respectively, has garnered multiple James Beard honors. Offering an inventive, seasonal menu inspired by Southern traditions, Clementine is where sophisticated culinary techniques meet the warmth of regional comfort fare.

The visual identity of Clementine is as carefully crafted as its cuisine. The restaurant's color palette was directly inspired by the tilework of the open kitchen, dominated by rich blues that serve as a chromatic complement to the restaurant’s namesake fruit. The restaurant's logo, rendered in elegant script typography, speaks to the handmade, gourmet nature of its offerings. This signature mark appears thoughtfully throughout the space—stitched on staff aprons, etched onto long-stemmed glassware, adhered to windows and awnings, printed on plates, coasters, and matchbooks, and illuminated on three-dimensional signage.

A stunning 12' × 7' botanical painting of a mandarin orange, created through a collaboration between industry-renowned illustrator Steven Noble and local tattoo artist Kelly Edwards, serves as the dining room's centerpiece. This detailed work, reminiscent of classical scientific engravings, reflects the restaurant's meticulous attention to detail and celebration of natural ingredients.

The restaurant's photography, captured by Jessica Attie, tells the complete culinary story. From behind-the-scenes glimpses of hands shaping fresh ingredients to beautifully plated final presentations, each image celebrates both process and artistry.

The team portraits, shot by Josh Huskin, break from traditional restaurant photography conventions. Instead of a kitchen for a backdrop and chef’s whites for attire, the smiling staff is photographed outdoors before a grove of citrus trees under clear blue skies, wearing various shades of blue that echo the brand's palette.

The website weaves these elements together with a thoughtful mix of fonts—Alice, a cordial serif for headlines, and Raleway, a modern sans-serif for body copy—crafting a digital presence as sophisticated and inviting as the restaurant itself.

“As a small business, working with Eli makes your life so much easier. You’ll have a great product in the end and won’t have to deal with massive firms that just want to sell the same thing over and over again with different colors. She crafted a unique design tailor-made for us the same way we strive to tailor experiences for our guests.

Consistently, we see that the custom mural she created for us is a big part of our daily life here at the restaurant. People take pictures of it, gesture to it; it stops them during their visits. Even if they’ve been here a hundred times, you can still see that they’re looking at it and appreciating the beauty of it.

Another aspect of her work we really appreciated was her attention to detail when it came to the photoshoots, which she directed. We had a subsequent photoshoot without her and thought, ‘this is not worth it without Eli. The money’s not worth spending unless Eli’s involved.’"
